  • a The values were calculated by using only the values for xylose, glucuronic acid, mannose, and galactose since these are the known sugar components for GXM and GalXM. The results are the means and standard deviations of two different experiments, with each sample analyzed in duplicate, to yield four values that were averaged. H99 cells were decapsulated by two sequential treatments with 2 × 15 ml DMSO (DMSO1 and DMSO2). Supernatants were collected and concentrated in H2O with Centricon-50 microconcentrators. Postradiation material originated from DMSO-treated cells followed by irradiation in PBS for 90 min. Radiation alone, material originated from H99 cells exposed to gamma radiation for 90 min. Total polysaccharide was obtained from H99 cell culture supernatant by precipitation with ethanol.
