All Rights Reserved.): Green fluorescent protein-tagged striated fiber assemblin (green) was expressed in centrin RNA interference cells of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. Residual centrin (red) accumulates at the basal bodies. Centrin deficiency impairs the ability of the cells to maintain a pair of basal bodies. Note cells with zero, one, two, and three basal bodies. Furthermore, the centrin knockdown greatly disturbs the ability of the cells to organize a system of four basal body-associated striated fiber assemblin fibers typical for wild-type cells.
